                1. For a few years now I've noticed some difficulty in understanding voices - on tv and in crowded areas. I then noticed that the background noise I was hearing was probably tinnitus. Finally I had enough and went in for a hearing check.

Went to the Coscto hearing center and found out - yep - some hearing loss. More than expected for my age. I didn't like that response so I did the mature thing and went to a hearing specialist. Same result. Yes, I considered going to _another_ doc. ;)

Honestly I was hoping the doc would find some deeply embedded rock of ear wax, pop it out, and magically my hearing would be fine. ;)

So - I made a plan. Wait till I'm 50 and consider hearing aides. Why 50? I don't know. At 48, I just wasn't ready to accept that. It was pure ego and not rational. Totally fine with saying that.

But - over the past few months, I've been to two movies where I struggled to understand what was being said. I then went to two events (a conference, a work offsite), where I struggled as well. It's super frustrating cuz I could def hear sound, just couldn't grok the words.

I figured enough was enough - and my wife - who was very supportive - she found a hearing aide that was in ear, app supported for configuration, etc, and I found Adobe's insurance covered it 100%. So... I got em.

I've had them now for about 2 days and it's _incredibly_ weird. Everything is louder. I'm not turning the TV down and not up. Things have a 'sharp' sound. I can tune it with the app, but keeping things as is for now just to see how my brain adjusts.

I can remember when I got transition glasses - it took about 2 weeks for my brain/eyes to adjust, so figuring about the same for this. Anyway... it's a change. I'm cautiously optimistic this will help. And I'll let you know.
